What is a Vuvuzela?

A Vuvuzela, sometimes referred to as a Lepatata is a horn made of plastic that you blow into which creates a very loud (and annoying) monotone note. We all know them as the sound that ruined the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but in the past vuvuzelas were used to gather villagers into a community meeting. For some reason, those crazy people down in South Africa decided it'd be a great idea to make the vuvuzela a symbol of South African soccer (also known as "Futball" to 99% of planet earth).

This "symbol" has been used quite heavily during the world cup and has been subject to a lot of controversy. We all know how annoying the sound is coming through the TV during our country's "futball" match, but apparently the high sound pressure levels at a range of less than 5 feet can cause some damage to the ears. Of course, it requires a lot of direct exposure on the ears to cause such damage, but too much of anything can kill anyone, right?

What do Vuvuzelas sound like?

Quick Summary: Very Very annoying. But that's what makes them so great! What's better than annoying your neighbor or even the opposing team's fans at a sporting event? Check out the video for a great demonstration:

Why do I need a Vuvuzela?

Everyone's doing it. You might as well buy one and be armed with your own Vuvuzela so when the opposing team is blowing theirs you can BLOW THEM RIGHT BACK. Would you bring a knife to a gun fight? I didn't think so. Be prepared, buy a vuvuzela today.
